'Imposter Syndrome Final Boss': Guy With a PhD Just Wants Everyone to Know He's Not Qualified to Have It
Getting a Ph.D. is one of the most impressive things you can do. Unfortunately for the Reddit user DrDoodoo11, his is completely useless. At least, that's what he thinks.
Taking to the r/GradSchool subreddit, DrDoodoo11 expressed concerns about landing a job and the "legitimacy" of his degree. "I've often been confused and it's becoming clear that I shouldn't have gotten a Ph.D.," he wrote. "They should really consider me as an applicant that has a high school, maybe partial completion of college-level of aptitude."
But while his post read like someone asking for guests to join his pity party, he was met with some straight-shot and honest advice instead. "From what you wrote, sounds like imposter syndrome," one person commented. They were far from the only reader to think so. "Your committee clearly believed you had completed PhD level work. With respect, this is crazy."
Everybody struggles with confidence and imposter syndrome from time to time, but it's important to remember that your resume is your resume. Never sell yourself short, because the only differences between you and the people above you are confidence, time and connections.
"You’ve finished your PhD," one commenter pleaded. "And you better own it."
