Though the American Heart Association may be all about helping Americans reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke, pop star Demi Lovato decided to take these goals to extreme new heights, performing her song “Heart Attack” at one of the nonprofit’s recent events.
On Wednesday, Lovato hit the stage at the Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection where they decided to sing a very uncanny rendition of their 2013 hit for a crowd of heart attack survivors.
“If I ever did that, I think I’d have a heart attack!” she sang in a now-viral clip of the performance.

While Demi actually did suffer a heart attack following her 2018 overdose, an experience they shared in their 2021 docuseries, Dancing With The Devil, several were still very confused by this song choice, prompting a spokesperson to offer a swift cover your a— statement.
“She spoke on the mind-heart connection. It was a sensitive moment intended to champion the women in the room — the very reason why Demi was at the event,” they explained, claiming that the singer elaborated on her decision to perform her hit before the song.
While it remains unclear whether this “beautiful moment” actually happened — to quote the old internet adage, “pics or it didn’t happen” — several still had one question for Demi, taking to Twitter with a resounding “what the f—k?”

“Demi Lovato singing 'Heart Attack' at an event for women with cardiovascular problems GOOD BYE,” wrote @thevenenoo.
“She has never even had one single crumb of a clue and god bless her for that,” joked @fkapigz while @flypical likened the incident to a similar snafu.
“This is like when Beyonce said no passengers on my plane at the 9/11 memorial,” they added.

But regardless of whether or not the song was in poor taste, we can only hope they offered an encore with their brand new song, “Defibrillator.”
